Hello, my name is Amanda and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist . I have a degree in education and have worked with children and youth from varying backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs from K-12. I currently work with teens & young adults (ages 12-24) on a range of different topics such as anxiety, depression, body image concerns, eating struggles, gender and sexual identity, friendship repairs, school struggles, struggles at home, self-esteem and self-confidence, and much more. I provide an eclectic, humanistic approach to my counselling that incorporates my areas of training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and even Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). I also have a degree in graphic design which allows me to integrate art and creativity into our sessions.

Life can be hard - I don’t need to tell you that, it’s a universal truth. What I have learned though is that everyone needs a “helper” sometimes, and I love that I can fill that role for teens! I have been a registered psychologist for over 10 years, and have worked in the mental health field much longer. My passion is working with teens and young adults to provide support during a time in life where big emotions reign supreme. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to explore life challenges, self, and relationships with a focus on making positive shifts to live a more authentic life.

Some of the many issues I work with are anxiety, depression, communication skills, OCD, perfectionism, stress management, self-care, healthy friendships, boundaries, values identification, career exploration & identity. My approach differs for each person who walks through my door - it would be ridiculous of me to assume that people are exactly the same. Some general approaches that align with my values are CBT, DBT, ACT, strengths-based, solution-focused, family systems, and mindfulness.

I have some other important roles in my life too. I go by the name of mom/mama/mommy/bro/bruh to a couple of active, busy, school-aged kids, and I have a big orange cat named Buster Moon. I’m pretty passionate about teaching psychology as well, so when I’m not in the counselling office, you’ll find me working with university students in several psychology courses at Athabasca University. I also really love coffee, distance running, podcasts, and hydroponic gardening.

Spoiler alert - I am also an imperfect human with an imperfect life. Some people think therapists are people who live perfect lives with perfect relationships, perfect self-care, perfect families… blah, blah, blah… simply not true. Just another human being trying to live an authentic life over here, and I hope to help you live yours.

Life can be hard - I don’t need to tell you that, it’s a universal truth. What I have learned tho... Read More
